Upcoming Website Redesign

Based on the responses I received as I asked for your help, it seems that it is time for a redesign. Not only will I be changing the appearance of the website, but I will be shifting the focus slightly as well.

Just wanted to give you a heads-up. I plan to have everything done sometime next week, and will let you know ahead of time (for those of you who read this in RSS instead of visiting the site) so that you can take a look around.

Help Me Improve Adventure-Some.com

This site is for you. I want it to be as helpful and enjoyable as possible. So I’m asking for your help. I have three questions that I hope you will answer.

  1. What kind of adventures do you want to see me take part in?
  2. What kind of articles do you want me to write? (ie: more how-to, more reviews, more stories)
  3. What can I do to make the site more helpful for you?

Email me and tell me what you think.

I look forward to your suggestions!

Become A Rockstar

One of the goals on my Life List is to become financially self-sufficient. By this I don’t mean able to pay my own bills (already do that), but not being dependent upon some company that is out of my control for my income. I don’t want to fear that I could lose my job because the boss doesn’t like me, or that I might be let go because times are hard. I want to build my own streams of income so that I have more control over the financial flows of my life. I believe that entrepreneurship is central to who I am.

To this end, I have been doing quite a bit of research about creating small income streams in my spare time. I currently have one project in the works, with plans for another one after that. (More about this later.)

While doing this research, I have run across a number of other people who share my mindset. They are building businesses in order to pursue the adventures in their lives, whether that is traveling, spending more time with their families or just pursuing a career in something they love.

One such person is Cody McKibben, owner of Thrilling Heroics Consulting. Here’s one of the first things that caught my eye: “You can build an awesome business, you can live a remarkable life, and you can do anything and go anywhere you want!” If that doesn’t sum up what I am aiming for, I don’t know what does.

Cody’s mission this year is to “empower as many would-be freelancers, entrepreneurs, and other do-gooders to take back their power, to realize they don’t have to be just a cog in a wheel and take what life gives them.” This is a goal that I want to be a part of, and I am hoping to get Cody to help me make this blog even better.

If you’re looking to live a remarkable life, head over and see what Cody has to say!

Dear Readers

Adventure-Some.com has been live for over 3.5 months now. It has over 70 posts, 5 pages and a steady number of readers.

The question now is, where do you want this site to go? I enjoy running this site, but ultimately, it is written for YOU. Here’s you chance to influence the future of the site.

    4 questions to consider:

  1. Do you like what I’m writing, and if not what about it don’t you like?
  2. What topics do you want to see covered? (completely different subjects or more of the same?)
  3. Do you want more in-depth information? (do you prefer shorter or longer posts?)
  4. Should I continue focusing on the small adventures that you can have in your everyday life, or should I move my focus to the bigger adventures that take more time?

Please let me know what you think. Good, bad, indifferent; I want to hear it all. You can email me, message me on Twitter @FrenchHolt, or leave me a comment after this post.

What’s Been Going On: Site Update

I’ve been working hard in the background, trying to improve the site. Some of the changes might have slipped in un-noticed, and I wanted to take some time to draw your attention to them.

Mascot

Have you seen this guy? He hikes across your screen at least twice every time you come here and visit. He likes the shade provided by the tree up in the header, and also hangs out on the right side of the screen. While hanging out there, he’s trying to help me out. It does cost me to keep this site up and running, and I would like for it to at least support itself. You can help me out by clicking on this guy when you see him and donating a bit of pocket change.

More posts!

Have you noticed the extra posts every week? That’s right! I’ve upped the ante. My recent venture into photography (as seen here and here) has provided me with more material that I want to share with you. I will be posting three pictures each week, in addition to the three weekly posts. You can follow along as I go adventuring, see how I grow as a photographer (which would be helped by critiques) and simply enjoy the views!

Better Company

As I’ve spent more time searching for fellow adventurers, I have been updating my links. I only want to provide you with the best for inspiration, and my links have changed to reflect that. Take a few minutes, head on over and visit these folks, and see where they might lead you!

Theme Re-design

-Smacks forehead- Oh yeah, how could I forget! Everything just changed! Well, not everything. Ok, not a whole lot, actually. I added a third column over on the left of the page so that I can include some advertisements (back to the whole site-support-itself thing). While doing that I tried to neaten up the right column and make everything look a bit more tidy. Placed the search bar at the top of the page, placed the RSS feed (Just click to sign up!) in the header and generally organized things a little better. All of you RSS and email subscribers might have missed out on this one, so you might come and visit to check it out!

That’s all I’ve got for now, but I’ve got more things that I am working on. If there is anything that you would like to see, please let me know in the comments!

My First Blog!

… and I’ll love it and I’ll hug it and I’ll squeeze it and I’ll feed it and I’ll water it forever and ever and ever… 😀

I have been browsing the internet since the mid 90’s. I have never had my own website during this time. For awhile now I have felt that it is past time I started a site of my own. I have contemplated a number of different topics, most of which were either already saturated or I was ill equipped to significantly contribute to. Finally it occurred to me that I could create a website dedicated to long held loves of mine: finding the adventures hidden within our everyday lives, excitement, wonderment & traveling.

I want my website to serve dual purposes. It can help you come up with ideas, improve your existing techniques, or guide you in the exploration of previously unknown areas. It will also help me to continue seeking out new adventures, encourage me to continue doing so, and push me to learn new skills.

I have spent far too much time gathering information. I read through vast amounts of information on www.ProBlogger.net, www.UpStartBlogger.com, and www.CopyBlogger.com. I have had the idea rolling around in my head for over a year now. Off and on I would browse through the archives of these blogs (and many others), reading and not feeling like I knew enough to begin. I finally decided to get off my duff and do something with the idea. I followed my own advice to quit planning and get to it! It took me about two days to put together the blog (which included about half a day of finding a theme that I liked), wrote some posts, outlined some future posts and generally got everything ready to go. I already had a host in mind so it didn’t take me long to get everything set up.

Here we go! I’m excited about this blog: I can’t wait to see how it affects others lives (and mine!)

The Adventure-Some New Year’s Resolution

In my personal life, I plan to keep seeking out the adventure in my life. No resolution needed there, it’s something that I already do and will keep doing as long as I am able. (And when I am no longer able, please put me out of my misery!)

However, I do have a New Year’s Resolution for Adventure-Some. I want to help you find the adventure in your life. I want to point out opportunities for excitement, new things to try, locations to explore, activities to do, people to meet, new viewpoints for familiar items and more! Some will be specific, some will be broad and open to your interpretation, all will be parts of the map guiding you to a more exciting life.
