Get up early to head into Big Bend. Count 15 RVs in the parking lot. That's too many! Glad we were heading out early. Even with a 2 hr drive arrived at Persimmon Gap visitor center before it was open, so on into Panther Junction. It's a spring break weekend so most everything is full. But a decent chance for an early spot at Rio Grande Village. We were hoping to boondocks it the ranger says our RV is too big for anything they have available. No problem finding a spot in the campground and end up with a great one, secluded in the cottonwoods in the back loop. Settle in, eat lunch and hop on the motorcycle. Head across the park to Castolon. I grab a Jr. Ranger book and we head on to the Santa Elena canyon trail. Definitely worth the hike. I draw as we take in the view and enjoy the shade. We head back home for the evening and pull out the grill for supper.
Spent the morning at Smiley Cafe - Ashley read while I painted a couple oflandscapes. Then visited Bill at the real estate office and went andwalked properties - Really liked the Eckart Lane property - lots ofpotential and a reasonable amount of clean-up. The big property we like butit's going to be a lot of work just to get a building site. The place inIgnacio with the barn we liked but it's a bit pricey - so we'll see whatthe financing options are for everything and go from there. Nathan had someextra tickets to the Banff Mountain Film festival so we joined Kristy andfriends to watch that. Really enjoyed it!
In to Parker for breakfast at the crossroads. Pretty tasty, if very busy! Th en a stop at the Family Dollar and then a tour of Bouse. Mom took me out acr oss the road in the side by side to explore. We had a great time and ended u p getting lots of photos of blooming cacti and mine sign posts. Wrapped up b y off-roaring and finding down spots in the fence to cross the railroad trac ks. Steak for supper and watched a movie about the World Trade Center tightr ope Walker before bed.
Slept in late and still tired. After being up for a bit I went back to bedfor a nap - apparently it was rather needed. Up and made brunch then headedinto the store. Decided to keep the store open but the doors locked socustomers can't come in tomorrow and going forward. Hopefully we will makesome sales over the phone and keep thing clean-ish. Too bad this isn't timefor a remodel. Home to spend time with Ashley and Lily. Made the leek andpotato soup and baked the beer bread in the cast iron dutch oven. It tooklonger than I anticipated so won't get to try it till tomorrow. Early tobed for Ashley - she's tired and not feeling great. I stayed up late, working on the email and tweaking the website for work.
Ran into the store in the morning to take care of a few things since I'llbe out tomorrow. Picked up groceries and headed home. Looks like I'll becovering the frame shop Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Directional Team call.
Lily slept really late and woke up with sneezes and a runny nose. Afterbreakfast she was ready to do something so I went ahead and took her in towork with me. She seemed to enjoy the ride (we took the gravel road, a newroute for her) and was happy to be at the store, if tired. After a coupleof minutes visiting we walked down to Ace and she pushed one of the littlecarts all over the store. We bought a pack of flower seeds just so shecould get something. Then back to the store and she climbed up and down thestep ladder a bunch. Ashley arrived and Lily was thrilled. We went andgrabbed lunch at Oscars (remembering to keep the lettuce and such for thechickens. I unloaded the clay order then headed home.
